Reduce your stress by eating this
Plus: Secret boost for your mood
Stress follows us around in life. It's like a silent enemy always on our heels.
Morning traffic jam on the way to work, late for a meeting, sudden rain and you are without an umbrella or anything else. There are countless reasons our bodies feel stressed. We can't always remove the cause of stress, but we can battle its effects.
Our best ally in this battle - the hormone serotonin.
It helps our brain handle stress better and controls our moods and emotions.
Serotonin comes from the amino acid tryptophan, found in proteins. Here are the top foods rich in tryptophan:
Pumpkin and sesame seeds
Cheeses - especially mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan, and hollandaise
Parsley
Venison, elk, and wild boar
Red roe
Almonds, cashews
Rabbit, turkey (better than chicken).
Trout, squid, mackerel, salmon(preferably wild), and cod
For drinks, try natural cocoa or sugar-free hot chocolate. Cocoa is great because it has tryptophan and lots of magnesium, which is good for the nervous system.
So, we know what makes serotonin, but what boosts its production?
Spend time in the sun
Eat fatty fish like salmon and cod, cooked gently, egg yolks
Use flaxseed oil in salads
If you want to use nutritional supplements, consult your doctor first
