Top 10 ways to boost vagus nerve
"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness", - Mark Twain.

I remember hearing the name "vagus nerve," and my brain immediately pictured a lonely nerve wandering in the depths of our body, like a salesperson traveling across the vast country. It was funny, but the reality was just as interesting as my imagination.
We can't do without some anatomy.
The vagus nerve covers the head, neck, chest, abdominal cavities and:
connects our brain to our entire abdominal cavity
creates nerve impulses and affects the digestive system and other organs in the abdominal cavity
influences the immune cells in the intestines, especially those in the mucous membranes
regulates the activity of the heart, digestive system, and participates in voice production

We have an autonomic nervous system, which is divided into sympathetic and parasympathetic parts.
The sympathetic system is roughly associated with "stress," while the parasympathetic system is associated with "calm."
The parasympathetic nervous system works through the vagus nerve.
So, if there is chronic stress, the sympathetic nervous system will always be more active, and the vagus nerve will have dysfunction.
As a result, many health problems can start due to chronic vagus nerve dysfunction. The upper parts of the digestive system will especially suffer.
Interesting fact: People with inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis) show reduced autonomic function and decreased innervation of the intestines.
A person with low vagus nerve tone may find it difficult to concentrate deeply, may have trouble falling asleep, and tend to "flare up like a match" and react sharply to others' words and actions.
What the vagus nerve is responsible for:
helps regulate heart rhythm, slowing it down when needed
helps stimulate stomach secretions, bile production, sphincter function, intestinal movement, and regulates feelings of hunger and fullness
affects the airways, helping to regulate breathing rate and depth
plays a role in regulating immune responses and inflammation, helping to reduce inflammatory processes in the body
affects mental health, helping to reduce stress and anxiety levels
links the brain with major body organs, including the liver, lungs, stomach, and intestines, providing two-way communication and coordination of functions
Overall, the vagus nerve plays a critical role in maintaining homeostasis in the body, helping to regulate many important functions and maintain balance between different body systems.
Activating the vagus nerve can have numerous positive effects on health, including reducing inflammation, improving digestion, decreasing anxiety and stress, and improving mood.
These methods can help improve vagus nerve function and promote overall health and well-being. Remember that having good vagus nerve tone, just like having good muscle tone, makes life easier. 👇
